Donations for Hope House

Around the World Presentations

Students presented about various gender and LGBTQ issues around the world. This gave us a lot to think about in terms of issues and situations are are similar to our own and those that seem quite a bit different from ours.

Guest Speaker - Helen Taylor


Helen Taylor, artist and activist against sex trafficking, spoke to class today about the local organization, Exodus Cry. Helen is a passionate advocate for changing the legal and cultural climate that supports and feeds the growing sex trafficking industry.

Miguel Morales

Writer and activist Miguel Morales attended class to speak to students about what inspires him to write, share some of his poetry, and discuss his experiences growing up as a child farm worker in Texas. I appreciate that Miguel will talk honestly about his perceptions and how his lived experiences, different from my own, impact how he views the world.

Guest Speaker


Jennifer Green, RN BSN BA SANE-A from St Luke's Health System spoke to the class about the Neurobiology of Trauma. Her expertise in dealing with victims of sexual assault helps us understand why people behave as they do after traumatic experiences and how to best help our friends and loved ones should they ever experience trauma.
